Together for sustainable transport
‘What would happen if people valued getting around town in an efficient, safe and ecological way more than owning their own car?’ – This is the question we can read on the CoMobility project website. Researchers associated with the project want to create a recipe for an active and sustainable city in which as many residents as possible choose public transport, cycling or other environmentally friendly solutions for getting around the city.
The CoMobility research project has two pillars: co-creation and modelling. Co-creation involves working with local communities, officials and entrepreneurs to learn about their mobility needs and opportunities. Modelling, in turn, involves the mathematical analysis of the impact of infrastructure changes on the urban air quality.
The project will result in an integrated transport and environment model together with the documentation of the process of co-creation of transport solutions. The results will be publicly available and will help local authorities to plan and implement climate-neutral transport.
Examples of effects
- on-line workshop on sustainable transport for local government officials,
- measurements of air quality, noise and traffic density in the vicinity of three Warsaw schools cooperating with the researchers (SP no. 34, SP no. 218 and SP no. 377),
- changing the traffic organisation in the vicinity of participating schools to improve the pupils’ safety (e.g. adding a contra-flow bicycle lane),
- scenarios of lessons on sustainable transport,
- exploration of the intrinsic motivations of car users,
- package of methods and tools for co-creating solutions to change citizens’ mobility choices, scaled to different cities.
